GDPR Artificial Intelligence Summit on Data Protection Day

A panel titled "The Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Public Sector and the Protection of Personal Data" was held in Ankara as part of the January 28th Data Protection Day. The program, opened by the Head of the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK), Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir, the Rector of Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, and the General Manager of TÜRKSAT, Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, included an in-depth analysis of the ethical principles of artificial intelligence, its oversight mechanisms, and Turkey's national AI policies.
Presentations were given on a wide range of topics, from algorithmic bias to data security risks, and the responsibilities arising from Law No. 6698 and strategic application areas in the technical ecosystem were conveyed to the participants. It was particularly emphasized that ethical oversight mechanisms and technical data security are critically important in building reliable artificial intelligence models.
The integration of AI models, aimed at increasing efficiency in the public sector, without violating individuals' privacy rights, and the technical data security risks were highlighted.
In light of Türkiye's AI policies and strategy documents, roadmaps were shared on how data security standards should be implemented in public institutions. The panelists' presentations on cybersecurity risks and data protection strategies once again demonstrated the priority of protecting individual rights within the state mechanism in the digital age.
